urpmi is the command-line package management tool used by the Mandriva Linux distribution Links to documentation and development notes for Mandriva linux are to be found on KB Easyurpmi is a web-based tool to help to setup urpmi URPMI can be used for installing, removing, updating and querying software packages of local or remote (networked) media. the main aim is to solve dependency problems on installation. if you want to install BitchX for example 'urpmi BitchX' 'urpmi' will search it's indexes of media and look for a package named "BitchX". If it finds one, it will also look for any other packages that "BitchX" requires (that's the really cool thing about urpmi, automatic dependency resolution). Also, it may prompt you to insert a cdrom if necessary. urpmi --auto-select will automatically update everything that needs to be updated (note: this will NOT update your kernel!) http://plf.zarb.org, contains mandrake packages that can't otherwise be distributed with Mandrake for legal reasons. Packages like DVD decoding and MP3 encoding software will be found there. urpmi.addmedia command used to add urpmi media (local cd/dvd media or remote) urpmi.removemedia -a will remove all sources http://club.mandriva.com/xwiki/bin/view/KB/OfficialDocumentation for official Docs
Mandrake is a very powerful stable Linux distribution widely used as server and desktop operating system. If you like compiling packages from source, you would love mandrake. Mandriva works very friendly for an admin as well as for an user.
